Privacy Policy for Pomodoro Plus

Effective Date: 16-07-2025

1. Introduction

Welcome to Pomodoro Plus. This Privacy Policy outlines our commitment to protecting your privacy. Pomodoro Plus (referred to as "the Extension," "we," "us," or "our") is designed from the ground up to be a private, secure, and user-centric application. Our core philosophy is that your data belongs to you.

This document explains what information the Extension handles, how it is stored, and what your rights are concerning that information. By installing and using the Extension, you agree to the handling of your data as described in this policy.

2. Our Core Privacy Principle: Local First

Pomodoro Plus is a local-first application. This means that all data generated by your use of the Extension is stored exclusively on your own computer and is never transmitted to our servers or any third-party services.

We do not have access to your focus session data, analytics, or any other information generated by the Extension. You are in complete control of your data at all times.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be explicitly clear about the information we never collect or have access to:

  • Personally Identifiable Information (PII): We do not collect your name, email address, IP address, location, or any other personal identifiers.
  • Browsing History: The Extension does not monitor, track, or transmit your browsing activity.
  • User Account Information: The Extension does not require you to create an account, and therefore, we do not store any user credentials.

4. Information Handled Locally on Your Device

To provide its features, such as the analytics dashboard, Pomodoro Plus saves a limited amount of non-personally identifiable data on your local machine using the secure Chrome Storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data includes:

Session Data:

  • A timestamp for each completed Pomodoro session.
  • The duration (in minutes) of each completed session.

Analytics Data:

  • Aggregated counts of sessions completed per day to calculate streaks.
  • User-defined settings, such as your daily session goal.
  • Information required to generate charts, such as total focus time per day and session length distribution.

5. How Your Locally Stored Data is Used

The data stored on your device is used solely to enable the functionality of the Extension for your benefit. These uses include:

  • Powering the Analytics Dashboard: To display your key metrics like "Today's Sessions," "Total Time," and "Current Streak."
  • Generating Charts: To create the "Weekly Progress," "Today's Progress," and "Session Distribution" charts.
  • Maintaining State: To ensure the timer's state persists even if you close the extension popup.
  • Enabling Data Export: To compile your session history into a JSON file when you choose to download it.

This data is processed entirely within your browser and is never analyzed, aggregated, or viewed by us.

6. Data Storage, Security, and Retention

  • Storage: All data is stored using the chrome.storage.local API provided by Google Chrome. This is a standard, secure storage mechanism for browser extensions that keeps data isolated to your browser profile on your device.
  • Security: Since the data never leaves your computer, it is as secure as your own device. We do not implement any network transmission, so there is no risk of interception.
  • Retention & Deletion: The data is retained on your device indefinitely to provide you with a complete history of your focus sessions. You have full control to clear this data. Uninstalling the Extension will permanently remove all associated data from your device.

7. Data Export

The "Data Export" feature allows you to download a complete copy of all your session and analytics data in a standard JSON format. This reinforces our commitment to data ownership, giving you the freedom to use your data as you see fit, whether for personal backup, further analysis in other tools, or migration.

8. Third-Party Services and Libraries

Pomodoro Plus does not integrate with any third-party analytics or tracking services (such as Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.).

The Extension uses Chart.js, a popular open-source library, to render the charts on the analytics dashboard. This library runs entirely within your browser on your local machine and does not transmit any data to external servers.

9. Children's Privacy

Pomodoro Plus is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe that a child has provided us with information, please contact us, and we will take steps to ensure its deletion, although as stated, the Extension does not transmit data from the user's device.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the Extension or on our web store page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted.
